Beeting The Rest Of The World
With the Olympics in London this year, all eyes will be on our athletes, so we were delighted to read research from a British team of scientists showing that sporting prowess can actually be enhanced by drinking the juice of various vitamin-packed vegetables, such as beetroot.
According to the University of Exeter, beetroot juice is a rich source of nitrate, and drinking it prior to exercise can apparently enhance physical capacity and sports performance through maximising the amount of oxygen in the body.
Suffolk-based James White Drinks hope to be pressing their beetroot juice on site from July, which will make them the UK's first and only producer of beetroot juice. The plant will be pressing up to 1,000 tonnes of beetroot used for their organic Beet It juice and concentrated Beet It stamina shot.
And not only does drinking beetroot juice enhance sporting ability, but just 500ml a day has been proven to significantly reduce blood pressure. There are even claims that drinking the juice could ward off heart disease, dementia and kidney failure.
The one slight drawback might be the purple urine it produces but if you're wearing gold around your neck, who cares?
