New Vineyard in Dublin City Centre
An Australian wine company is to build a vineyard in Dublin city centre.
McGuigan Wines will spend £200,000 on the vineyard in the Irish capital's financial district next summer.
The company is bringing 80 Semillon vines aged over 60-years old to create the vineyard complete with cellar door, wine barrels, tractors and the company's chief winemaker Neil McGuigan.
The McGuigan City Vineyard in Dublin follows successful installations in London, Sydney and Melbourne designed to attract new customers.
Featuring rows of vines, consumers will be encouraged to walk through the vineyard sampling the latest new releases from the McGuigan range.
It will be designed to give an insight into the Australian wine industry and give wine lovers the chance to learn about the winemaking team.
Paul Schaafsma, UK & Ireland general manager for brand owner Australian Vintage, predicted the vineyard would bring customers from the UK and Europe to visit the spectacle.
"McGuigan Wines is the No.1 selling Australian wine brand in Ireland, and the second largest overall.
"The Irish market is full of opportunity, and we see the McGuigan City Vineyard concept as an ideal platform from which to engage the trade, consumers and the media with our internationally recognised brand," he said.
The vineyard will be open for nine days and is timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the McGuigan Black Label range.
